Relative Strength Wednesday

Picture
No video today, our day jobs sometimes require travel. This is one of those weeks. However, we still wanted to share our Relative Strength Wednesday results.  Week two of our RS composite system.  As a refresher, we have created a scoring system and are assigning points based on PG rating, bull/bear ratio, relative strength performance vs the SPY and technicals. ( direction of LT and ST Chaikin MA and money flow)  Our goal is to trend these rankings over time to show how RS rolls through the market.  It's also data we implement into our daily trading, assisting in establishing our over all bias of the market.

Today the market continues to show defensives favorably. As interest rates remain under pressure financials took a hit, while XLU and XLRE remain strong and XLP is showing encouraging signs. Meanwhile, energy, industrials and material lag. ( Thanks, Boeing)

Today we spend some time pre-market examining the moves following yesterdays Fed news.  Then we move onto our weekly management  of our  simulated long ETF portfolio. This week we concentrated on the U.S. sectors.   Based on our rules, as we seek  relative strength vs the ACWI, we liquidated a large portion of of U.S. Sectors as XLU and XLV have shown weakness recently.  Our Secondary Sectors fared much better as they are tech heavy.   Watch our video to see our methods and subscribe to our channel!

After a tour pf pre-market activity, we turned to managing our ETF portfolio.  Thursdays are liquidation day.  Today we manage our Country 1 & Country 2 holdings.  As it turns out, more than one of our Country 2 holdings met our rules for full liquidation.   If the dollar continues to strengthen, we'd imagine there will be more liquidation to come among our Country Level 2 holdings.

We continue to refine and test our new system of assessing relative sector strength in the market using multiple Chaikin Analytics factors.  The ranking of ETF's above takes into account:
  • Powerbar Differentials
  • ETF Power Gauge
  • Money Flow
  • Direction of Short and Long Terms Trends
  • 1 month, 3 month and 6 month returns of each ETF relative to the SPY.

Starting next week, we'll show you how we do it.  I just need a few more days to make everything viewer-worthy.
